Tragedy of Nalbranath
A few centuries ago, the Dwarves of Nalbranath lived in the city that is now the Necropolis of Nalbranath. During their excavation of the Stonefang Mountain interior, they uncovered ancient burial grounds. The catacombs appeared to be empty so they decided to use the area as a tomb for their own.
About 25 years after they uncovered these crypts, tragedy befell the Dwarves of Nalbranath. Undead poured out of the burial grounds and quickly overtook the city and most of its denizens. Many were lost in the panic, but those who took arms regrouped into the tunnels. After a several failed attempts to reclaim their glorious city, the remaining Dwarves fell back to the mountain exterior and prepared to fight the undead masses if they were to come out of the mountain. They made camp at the entrance of the mountain and waited, readying themselves for a last stand. The undead horde never left the sanctity of the Nalbranath Cavern and for about 300 years, the Dwarves of Nalbranath lived outside the safety of their mountain home. Knowing that their numbers were too few to reclaim their city, they have sworn to defend the entrance against any undead that may try to exit, and to warn oncoming travelers that to continue would not be wise. The glimmer of hope has seemed to fade from the eyes of the warriors as they fear that they will never see their home again without aid.
